Continental Shift | Families We've Made is an art exhibition originally exploring the dynamics of stepfamilies and currently is hosting an online forum; encouraging the public to share photographs, writings and visual art inspired by their stepfamily experiences. Submissions have been collected since January; artwork and writing have been received from traditional stepfamilies as well as adoptive families, LGBT families, children raised by their grandparents or aunts/uncles, surrogate and invented families.   Continental Shift  spotlights an increasingly common yet seldom discussed demographic in an effort to explore the challenges stepfamilies face and to help build stronger, healthier families. This exhibition is building a unique and creative platform for people to share, shed and celebrate. On Saturday, August 9 a one night only exhibition at Georgetown’s Castle will feature mixed media paintings by Seattle artist Amy Pleasant, artworks from national and local artists, a one-act play which pointedly and humorously explores divided loyalties and life transitions and multimedia featuring the public’s submissions.  The online exhibition will continue and we will be accepting submissions through 2015.

Featuring Seattle artists, multimedia and paintings by artist Amy Pleasant and selected paintings from a national call juried by Shannon Trimble of Gallery Paule Anglim, San Francisco and Amanda Michele Dellinger,  Assistant Director of Lisa Harris Gallery, Seattle.  Included will be a performance of a one act faux family wedding humorously exploring divided loyalties, life transitions and changing family roles. This one night only exhibition is being held at "the Castle", an historic turn of the century mansion, in the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle.

An ONLINE GALLERY and FORUM

It is made by and for those who choose to participate with or without experience in the arts. We are excited to open this dialog through the arts because we believe art is universal, non-discriminating and a useful vehicle when trying to express something complex - like one’s experience in a step-family.
